You might have noticed your laptop mysteriously start to warm up while you’re browsing the web. Rogue ads could be the culprit. In this post, we will show you how to configure Chrome browser to block ads that drain your Windows 10 system resources.
Towards the end of August, Google Chrome will start blocking ads that hog your computer’s resources. But, you can opt to enable the feature manually today.
Configure Chrome browser to block ads that drain Windows 10 system resources
According to Chrome product manager Marshall Vale, on the Chromium blog;
In order to save our users’ batteries and data plans, and provide them with a good experience on the web, Chrome will limit the resources a display ad can use before the user interacts with the ad . When an ad reaches its limit, the ad’s frame will navigate to an error page, informing the user that the ad has used too many resources.

If you’d rather stop these heavy load ads from revving up your computer and draining your resources, follow the instructions below to enable the Heavy Ad Intervention flag manually:
- Copy and paste the flag into Chrome browser URL address bar and hit Enter.
chrome://flags/#enable-heavy-ad-intervention
- Click on Default on the right side of the flag page.
- Select Enabled from the drop-down.
- Close and reopen the browser for the changes to take effect.
That’s it!
