How to enable or disable floating immersive Windows 10 Search Bar

On Windows 10 comes with a hidden immersive search bar that looks and behaves quite like Apple’s macOS Spotlight search box – but it’s not enabled by default. In this post, we will show you the steps you can take to enable or disable floating immersive Windows 10 Search Bar.

When you enable the floating Search bar, instead of clicking on the Search bar or opening the Start menu, you can also use the Windows Key + S shortcut instead to instantly launch Immersive Search.

This window provides convenient shortcuts to your most-used apps and offers the ability to easily filter queries by an app, a document, a folder, etc.

To open the new floating Search bar UI, you can either press Windows key + S or click on the Search icon (taskbar).

Enable/Disable floating immersive Windows 10 Search Bar

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search

  • In right-side pane, right-click on empty area and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value option.
  • Set the new DWORD name as ImmersiveSearch.

  • To enable the floating search bar, change the value data of ImmersiveSearch to 1, else change the value of ImmersiveSearch to 0 to disable the floating search bar.
